Management
Steve Basta, CEO
Mr. Basta brings over 15 years of experience building and managing medical device companies to AlterG. From 2002 through 2010, Mr. Basta served as CEO of BioForm Medical, Inc, navigating the company through the successful commercialization of the #3 worldwide dermal filler and the development and launch of BioForm’s second major aesthetics product. He also led BioForm’s financial and corporate evolution through a $250 million acquisition by Merz, a privately held German pharmaceutical company. From February 2010 through September 2011, Mr. Basta served as the global business unit leader for Merz Aesthetics.
Prior to Bioform Medical, Mr. Basta served as President and CEO of Gliatech, Inc., VP Business Development and Chief Financial Officer of Creative BioMolecules, Inc., and Executive Director of Product Development for The Immune Response Corporation. Mr. Basta began his career in investment banking with Dillon, Read and Co. Inc. He holds a BA from The Johns Hopkins University and received his Master of Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University.
David Grenewetzki, President
Dave is a veteran of the consumer software space who arrived in the health and fitness market late in his career. After serving on the Expresso Fitness board for more than five years, he assumed the role of CEO/President and successfully managed the process of transitioning the company to new ownership. Expresso (now Interactive Fitness Holdings) is the creator and manufacturer of virtual reality exercise equipment targeted at the health club market.
Dave was the President of Sierra On-Line, a major division of Vivendi-Universal Games. In that role he was responsible for the direction of software development, marketing and publishing of one of the broadest ranges of gaming software in the industry.
Prior to his role at Sierra, Dave held the position of Executive VP of Technology and Product Development and member of the Board of Directors for Palladium Interactive and was Executive VP of Technology and Product Development for game publisher Accolade.
Dave has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Davis, a MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, and an MBA from California State University at Northridge.
Kevin Davidge, Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Kevin has 20 years of executive financial leadership for a wide variety of healthcare/life science companies ranging from biotechnology, medical imaging and diagnostics segments. Most recently, Kevin was CFO for HX Diagnostics, a start-up company developing point-of-care diagnostics tests for infectious diseases. HX was merged into NexusDx In 2009. Prior to that, Kevin served as CFO at two medical imaging companies – R2 Technology and ZONARE Medical Systems. Revenues in both companies ramped from zero to $30-$60 million within four years of product launch. Earlier in his career, Kevin was CFO at Athena Neurosciences, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company where revenues grew from zero to $70 million in four years. Athena was sold to Elan in 1996 for $600 million.
Kevin has extensive fund raising, M&A and product licensing experience, having raised over $200 million in equity, debt and off balance sheet financings. Kevin spent the first nine years of his career in the international public accounting firm of KPMG. Kevin graduated from UC Berkeley Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Dev Mishra, M.D., Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
Dr. Mishra oversees and coordinates research activity at AlterG, and assists with development of clinical protocols and procedures. He is President of Sideline Sports Doc, LLC, and served as a medical officer at Oratec Interventions, Inc., MedModus, Inc., and clinical advisor to Stryker Endoscopy. Additionally, Dev is an advisor to venture capital firms SV LifeSciences, Onset Ventures, The Innovation Factory, and Intersect Partners. Through these associations he has advised more than 100 young medical device and technology companies on product development and clinical study design.
Dev is double Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He continues to practice sports medicine in Burlingame, California. Dr. Mishra’s practice focus is on sports related injuries of the knee and shoulder, with a special interest in sports related injuries to young athletes. He writes a column for Soccer America magazine and WePlay. He serves as a team physician for several Bay Area high schools and the United States Soccer Federation National Teams.
Dr. Mishra is an undergraduate alumnus of Yale University. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1988, and subsequently pursued his residency in orthopaedic surgery there as well. While at UCSD, he received the Zimmer/AOA Resident Award for his research on exercise induced muscle injury and completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Research. Following residency, Dr. Mishra completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
Clement Leung, D.C., Vice President of Sales
Mr. Leung has successfully launched new products in the rehabilitation market focusing on sports medicine. He has extensive clinical experience in the orthopedic rehabilitation market as well as a medical background. Mr. Leung also has distribution management experience for multiple channels. Most recently Clement was Regional vice president for Bellacure, start up manufacture of a prefabricated knee orthotics. Prior to that Clement was Regional account manager for Total Care Hanger, a new division targeting orthopedic physicians for custom and prefabricated orthotics. At Hanger he managed a sales team and support sales staff in the top producing region. Clement has also been marketing manager for Coolsystems, manufacturer of the Game Ready System where he successfully launched GameReady into the rehabilitation market and developed a new channel for durable medical equipment market.
Mike Phillips, Vice President of Operations
Mike brings 30 years of experience in industry to AlterG. He began his career at start-up Convergent Technologies, advancing through the organization to hold positions of Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Director of Operations. From Convergent, Mike moved to SuperMac where he helped them strategically outsource their operations overseas. While working at Gregory Associates selling outsourcing design and manufacturing of capital equipment, Mike was recruited to join ADAC Labs, his first medical company, as Director of Manufacturing Engineering. ADAC was eventually bought out by Philips Medical Systems, where Mike stayed for the next ten years. During his tenure at Philips, he led a variety of teams in Engineering, Operations and Service, including teams on global outsourcing, supply-chain management, and integrating international service support organizations.
In March 2009, Mike joined AlterG as Vice President of Operations. He holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering, an MBA and is an accomplished Six Sigma Black Belt. Currently Mike is also a trustee for St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, CA.
Gabriel Griego, Vice President of Marketing
Gabriel has 20 years of experience building brands and helping small companies successfully grow. He began his career at PowerBar, where he learned how to create authentic and powerful consumer loyalty through grassroots marketing. Over a 10-year career at PowerBar, Gabriel held a variety of marketing positions, ultimately becoming the Director of Brand Communication, overseeing the family of PowerBar brands. Gabriel was also part of the leadership team that helped PowerBar grow from a niche product for sports enthusiasts to a household brand name, culminating with a successful sale to Nestle. From there Gabriel transitioned to the medical device industry where he became the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for CoolSystems. At CoolSystems he created and launched the Game Ready Accelerated Recovery System, a cutting edge cold and compression device that grew quickly in the sports medicine category.
After a establishing a successful brand in the sports medicine industry, Gabriel decided to try his hand in high technology, becoming the Vice President of Marketing for Wesabe, the creators of the first social personal finance network. After helping Wesabe grow to over 200,000 members, Gabriel took the opportunity to move back into the medical industry, joining AlterG as the Vice President of Marketing in August 2009.
